If you ve installed the cabinets yourself make sure that you have a level line running along the top by placing a level.
If you re handy with power tools and used to precision measuring you can install your countertops in a weekend.
Materials needed for installing laminate sheets.
Center it and trace the outline.
Use a belt sander to sand the backsplash to the line drawn with the compass.
If you need to make a cut out for the sink and range top use the old laminate countertop as a guide.
Using 1 1 4 nails or screws nail or screw build up strips to bottom of countertop fig 8 at locations previously marked.
Follow directions on adhesive package.
Use shingles to raise a cabinet if you need to.
If your sink or range top did not come with a template set the item upside down on top of the new countertop.
Scribing your backsplash to the wall is the most crucial step.
You ll need basic hand tools a jigsaw a drill and a belt sander.
Be sure to leave room for the backsplash images 1 and 2.
Use the j roller to further press the laminate into place and trim any edges that are hanging over image 4.
Laminate countertops are durable easy to clean and more moisture proof than just about any other material you can use.
You ll save a lot of money installing prefab laminate countertops yourself.
I went with this matte white formica sheet for my workbench.
Remove the countertop and clamp it in place on sawhorses.
If you re installing a new sink or range top use the template that comes in the box.
With build up strips secured to the bottom of countertop you can now place the countertop back on the cabinets.
Once you are happy with the alignment remove the batten strips and press the laminate into place image 3.
Laminate sheet wider and longer than your countertop.
Place the countertop on the cabinet and ensure the backsplash is flush against the wall.
Measure the opening of your sink by flipping it over and measuring the base from edge to edge on each side.
